Tot has gone from being my son that needed blackout curtains to a child afraid of the dark. We have been working on this for a couple of weeks now. Talking about the shadows looking different, the noises and what they really are and now for some odd questions… The one he hit me with tonight was “What happens when someone comes out of the TV and into my room?” Yaa, I had a *blink* moment. I explained how the TV was electricity and people can’t jump out of the TV. Never. Then he went on with the “What if they opened the TV and stepped out?”. I talked about the inside of the TV and how it just is not physically possible.
Later, I mention it to my hubby. He reminds me there is a commercial now were they are showing the ghostly hand coming from the TV to the little girl (I believe it is from the movie Poltergeist) for some tv service… I think it is Direct TV. Great. Just what I need for my kids to see when they are having problems with the night. Hubby also reminded me they have seen videos of themselves… yep, I think I’ll be pulling some of those out and showing him how it works.
Another day, another night. We made it!!!!
My boys never asked about monsters until they started watching Scooby Doo. How goofy! All the Scooby Doo monsters turn out to be old people in masks, how scary can that be?
“Night terrors” are a part of growing up I suspect. I went through these sorts of phases at different times as I grew and they usually related to some disturbances in home life or coincided, now I have learned about these things, to “testosterone hits” that boys get at stages as they develop. Probably not helped by the very realistic images now produced on TV!
Hey, maybe this is a good excuse to get a nice flat screen!
“Look, Tot! The TV is too flat for anyone to fit in it.”
No need to thank me.
I’m here to help.
