We talked at dinner last night. It went something like this:
Tater: Mom, guess what I’m going to be when I grow up. A doctor
Mom: Wow. That’s great. **before I can finish**
Tater: Yaa, I want to make lots of money and be rich.
Mom: Well you have to do well in school. Writing will be very important **side note: tater HATES to write**
Tater: hmmm. I still want to be a doctor.
and we went on to talk about specialties and he said he wanted to work on old people because they would have more problems and pay more for it. It took everything for me not to bust out laughing. That boy was serious and I had to agree with him. Gotta love the way my kids think about things.
Tater and I need to talk. Good Grief… if socialized medicine comes in 1) he will be salary and 2) there won’t be old people to treat! They’ll all be asked to die! Heh!
Seriously, geratric medicine is the up and coming because of the Boomers, however, they get paid what internists get paid. That’s the low end.
Tell him he wants to be a dermatologist. Skin cancer is only going to get worse and everyone wants that crap cut off their skin. Plus, no emergencies. Please, who gets the 4AM call because of a spot? NO. Dentists and other types get all sorts of whacky calls at 4AM and sometimes, some serious stuff.
Tell him skin doctor is the place to be. And he’ll get to see ALL sorts of OLD PEOPLE!!! Our public insurance will probably cover that!
