The Ripe Old Age of 7

Posted by: vw bug    in Mom, Tater

Usually I try to write stories to make me laugh in the blog. I use it as my ‘happy place’ to remember the good times. I have a lot of good times. Like yesterday Tot asking me to play with him. We played some wii, we played star wars where he was the teacher and I was the student… though cutting off my leg with the light saber didn’t seem very teacher like… he brought me a flower from outside…

then the rest of the time was dealing with a 7 year old. He has decided nothing is his fault. Not getting his homework done, not getting it right, not getting to play on the electronics… mean ol’ mom is doing it to him… the teacher is doing it to him… he is becoming a bully, then it is because he is stupid, and the list goes on and on and on. By the time hubby got home last night I was ready to walk out of this house and not come back. I lectured Tater, I asked him nicely, I put him in time out, I didn’t let him cook with me (which was another tactic to try and get out of doing his work) and more. It sucks to have very intelligent kids at moments like this… I have to stay one step ahead, make sure I speak at their level even though they seem like they understand more… their maturity is such I need to keep it where they understand it. It makes for a very, very long day and it was only 4 hours of time.

By the way, it got done and got done correctly. It took all four hours to do 2 pieces of homework… One was 4 questions to answer about a paragraph he read, the other was to rewrite the sentences using “and” to put the sentences together. I am NOT kidding. Once he did it, he was done in 20 minutes. You wonder why I’m not writing much out here… this is why. He has been like this for a week or two. I have been asking about the bus, about school, about home to see if there was something… then I found out three other moms with good kids are having problems as well… It must be the ripe old age of 7 is starting to try ‘independence’ and not the right way. I’ll get past this and so will he. Hopefully we will go in the right direction together. ;-)
