I'd do the iPhone over the blackberry. I am not in love with my blackberry. I think it's too temperamental. If you get moisture in the keys, you're toast. Also, you can get an iPhone refurb'd. You don't have to buy them new. It's still the dang data plan that will kick you though. The data plans are individual, so if you pay $80/mo for his data plan, it will be nearly the same for you... it's not an add on feature for $5.

I would have an iPhone if I could afford one. And to add the data plan (and Bou is right, the phone is almost a paperweight without it) is around $30.

I actually like the iPhone better than the 'crackberry.' But then again, I love my ipod, touch, too......

I have the data plan already for my hubby's phone. No big deal to get a blackberry... other than the thought of oging back. yaa... might happen but it would be tough.

Here is the issue with the iPhone, you have to have the data plan. Right now, I think you have a basic plan with calls and texting. With the iPhone and phones like my Blackberry, you have to have internet. I believe it is a requirement and it jacks up your monthly payment. It's ghastly... really.

And once you get it, you don't want to go back. It's like getting a really nice car with heated seats for the winter and now going back to cold vinyl. You can do it, but dang, you will miss those heated seats.

I get email on my phone, which is great as I'm not home much. I answer most of my email on my blackberry now, a joke with some of my older women (in that organization I'm in) that I'm all 'techy', but I told them, I'm flat not home enough to answer their email from home, I have to rely on my blackberry.

Is it a necessity? No. If things get much worse economically, we'll all switch out our phones to basic plans, but quite frankly, even though I could part with my Blackberry, I might have to pry my husband's iPhone from his cold dead hands...
