Continuing on the scouting theme… just one month after joining we had our first camp out. We borrowed a tent from Bou. And had bought some blow up mattresses and sleeping bags… I couldn’t walk the next morning. My arthritis does NOT like sleeping on the ground even with blow up mattresses.
And the youngest had fun with the activities…

I am finally getting around to making the scout scrapbook pages. Seriously… It’s been almost 4 years and I am getting my act in gear… Here is page one. This is my youngest as a Tiger at his first Den meeting.
Here is page two. My oldest joined as a Bear. This is his first outing with his Den.
How life has changed in 3 years. I also need to catch up and stay caught up… Ugh.

So far the scouts are bringing us together as a family. We are now doing crafts together. Ok Ok, we do crafts together most of the time anyways. This way allows the kids to get an award from it. Water cycle on posters, puppets, masks. Yep, this is fun.
I made puppets as well. My Tigger the Tiger cub was confiscated by my oldest. He was making a show with it. He as saying how Tigger wanted to be a pig. He made pig noises and had a whole story about this Tiger that wanted to be a pig and it made the youngest crack up.
Of course the youngest was making Tigers as well as I was and here is his rendition:
Yep, the life we are living is crazy yet fun. Camping craziness ahead!

Wow. I went to my oldest den meeting tonight. Talk about chaos. I thought the house was going to be destroyed. Made me think twice about saying I would open my house up to be used for a meeting. Over all they were fairly well behaved, but it only took one to get the whole group going. Ugh. Though I must say it was a fun meeting. Trail mix, constellation cans, pick 10 essential items for camping (and my ds was not considered essential), consumer race (who could eat 3 crackers, 4 orange slices, 5 m&ms and get back to the next person to repeat the fastest). Wow. Lots of stuff. Giving me ideas for my next meeting! Yep, life is good overall. Except I forgot to take my antibiotic until now and have to do something to settle my stomach after eating at 10pm at night.

There was a Den/Pack leader meeting last night. I went. It was suppose to cover training, popcorn sales, critter crawl, camping and other stuff. We made it through Training and into Popcorn sales. An hour later, I left. Luckily our ‘Popcorn Kernel’ agreed to stay for the whole thing. I must remember to call her later and find out what happened. And to make sure she didn’t sign me up for anything! I must say that I am discovering that meetings run by volunteers sure do go a whole lot longer than those where you get paid. Sigh. And NO I am NOT volunteering to run the meetings.

Run for cover. It’s time for the cub scouts to sell popcorn come the first weekend of October. I had no idea how much they used that money for the scouts. They really need to find something else to sell. Considering it is used to run the whole pack. Ok, the popcorn is suppose to be environmentally friendly, pop better, less oil and all that stuff you pop yourself. But it’s popcorn! Oh yaa, they still have the already pop’d and covered in gooey stuff popcorn ready to go. Ugh. Wonder what else boys could sell to make money besides popcorn. There must be something better out there. I don’t know what but not popcorn.
Yet, I will have the boys sell this. I haven’t made them sell anything so far for the schools. Oh, I buy stuff and mamaw usually gets something from the schools. I have an issue that I pay taxes and still have to buy stuff through a gift wrap sell to help it run, so I don’t make the kids sell for the school. On the other hand. They showed us and the kids the breakdown of the money. Exactly how it is spent and why we need it. Sigh. If we are truly going to be cub scouts, we need to help support the team. We will go ask for some orders and see if we can get enough to actually help. Not my cup of tea. I just hope there are enough scouts that can bring in the money because I don’t think it will be my kids.

I have never had so many meetings in such a short period of time since I worked in the computer network field. Geeze, it is insane. Pack meeting, Den 10 meeting, Leader meeting, Den 7 meeting, Den 10 meeting, Pack meeting, critter crawl, camp out for the weekend. All of this is between Sept 13th to Oct 24th. Exactly when do you NOT have scouts meetings?
