Insane band director?

Our band director is getting with another school and putting approximately 120 kids together to perform. D’oh. They will only be together for the performance. D’oh. Seriously. I think the man is out of his mind… but my understanding is that he does it every year… though this year it is only with ONE other school. Last year it was with THREE other schools. Am I the only one that thinks that is insane? Then again, I caught a small conversation between moms and I think the other school coming over is a Middle school… NOT another elementary school. That might help. Maybe. Then again, middle school kids are hormonal. So you never know. I hope I get to see one of times they play, but I’m not sure. Gotta love the enthusiasm.

My oldest son is growing up. He is at my chin… and possibly higher… at the age of nine. 9. NINE. Ugh. Still, he is a boy and can’t stand still for a picture. Best one I could get was this one:

My heart stops when I remember how he was a little dude compared to now. He has become the sweetest young man. He tries so hard. He has a difficult road in front of him but I know he will succeed. Just being a mom makes it hard to watch. I’m just glad he is my child.

My youngest sang with around 300 other 2nd graders last week. The teacher did a great job. She broke them into groups to sing. Then all of them together. As my son was waiting his turn, I got this picture:

He said all those people made him nervous at first. But it was ok after a while. What a great thing for the teacher to do. To get the kids in front of over 900 people while every one still cheers for them and makes them feel good to be on stage.

Tomorrow night I will be in a High School auditorium listening to 270 2nd grade students sing. Yep, you heard that right… just about triple that number for the number of parents and kids coming to watch them. My youngest will be up on that stage. I have heard they do a great job… I just can’t help but laugh. There are always kids at that age that do NOT know what singing versus screaming is… I’ll try to record some of it… no promises.

Gotta love the words they have to use… I still am amazed he gets a paragraph that almost flows out of the eight words in eight sentences.

The Dog ch. 4

It was evident that when we got home that her mother was sick. We threw away rubbish items. We made crockery for her. In the cup was an elixir to make her feel better. The jar was very delicate. We gave her a spacious room to sleep in. The room was almost as big as an auditorium! We were the proprietors of the jar of elixir.

Here is another installment of vocabulary word story but with continuation of Helen and Sam (the Dog).

The dog Ch. 3

The rain stopped but water still came out of the gutter. She decided to take me for a walk because the weather was suitable. It felt marvelous when we went out for a walk. We walked by Publix and one of the things we read on the sign for sale was nougats. The next thing we saw for sale on the sign was toffee. We also found out there were some crescent shaped sandwich cutters for sale. I looked at the sign suspiciously, it looked like a cat scratched it. The scratches were on the enamel part of the sign. I spotted the cat in the corridor between the two stores. Then I found something practical in the cat’s mouth, a dog food can. I took her to the cat and got the dog food and we walked home.

Seriously? 2nd Grade?

Ok, are you ready for this? Here is my son’s 2nd grade spelling list:

elixir, morsel, opaque, avarice, evident, auditorium, crockery, delicate, spacious, rubbish
appetizing, quenching, acquiring, flustered, drenched, halted, peered, spurted, promptly, briskly

and the bonus: proprietor

Of course, older brother taught him that peered was really pee red. Sigh. One of the easier ones to learn. Oh he has most of them right, now. And it is better than his older brother who had to learn chartreuse and the definition and how to use it in a sentence. Ugh.

The first ten are all my youngest had to use in a story. Yes, you read that right… a story. I should publish his last 3 ‘stories’ and highlight the vocabulary. I just might have to do that… it is… interesting to see what a 2nd grader (8 year old) can come up with to meet the minimum requirements.

Ok on my to do list… just not happening today.

Ok, my son got his scout wolf badge last night. I now officially have a wolf and a webelos II. I love the scouts. I love watching my boys grow in scouts. Life is good!

Since I have a lifeproof case on my iPhone, I don’t worry so much about it being around water… so I totally forgot to take pictures with my friend’s underwater camera. She bought one to take out on the deep sea fishing boat and for when they went snorkeling. She still had 10 pictures left so asked if I could use it. Sure. I knew we were going camping and the boys would be in the water… a lot. And I forgot. Guess I’ll try to remember to take it to the pool when they have swim practice and see if I can get some water level shots of them swimming. Would be cool looking I think.
