Keeping warm

We were suppose to go camping with the Pack this weekend. I said no. First off they required you to sign up 3 months ago and it was only preregistration. Only for the whole weekend. No walkups allowed. Fine, it is a dusty, nasty bathroom place and we have done a lot of camping. We can skip this one. Glad we did, as the temperature dropped 30 degrees. From 70s at night to 40s. I imagine in the woods it was even colder. Brrrr.

It makes me think we should come up with a catalog of stuff to buy for camping in Florida. We could do some cheap catalog printing with the items most used and the best places to buy them for the best prices. Like the right kind of sleeping bag… don’t buy a summer sleeping bag just because you are in Florida… most people camp in the winter when the mosquitoes are not around. And the temperature can get really cold because of the rain and water around. Brrr…

Yep, made a good decision for this weekend. GRIN

We were invited to go camping this weekend. Which would be cool if we could get my oldest his own tent. Maybe a Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 tent? At some point he will have to have his own if he continues into boy scouts. We have come to love camping as a family. Boy scouts, you camp on your own. Sigh. Maybe we’ll just have to make a trip or two on our own as a family.

Always An Adventure

Never a dull moment at my house… Go read THIS POST by Bou. Did you read towards the bottom… did you catch the conversation I had with her on Saturday night about losing my keys? Oh yes I did call her. I really lost my car keys while camping with about 50 scouts. Ugh. I must be out of my mind. No we never did find them. But I had fun getting to sit and talk to Bou for 30 minutes while we made the trip back to my house. She is a great friend!

I must confess, I am always asking her for odd ball help. So this time I reached out to two other friends… both of which I found out later had their cell phones turned off that night. D’oh. Seems she is the one for me! GRIN.

I paid the money. We were all set to go… and… I asked that we not go. I’ve still got a little bit of a cough going on… hence I didn’t want to spend two nights on an island. Is it gorgeous? Yep. Did we have fun last year? Yep. The boys hiked and played int he water the whole time.

This year… well, we just went for the day. The youngest was in the water from 10am to 3pm. The oldest was out for a short while to hang with some friends that just arrived… I think that lasted all of 15 minutes. Oh… and both came out to eat lunch… 5 minutes. ;-)

Yep… it was a good time. Glad we went for the day.

Yep, it is suppose to be a great weekend. I’m so looking forward to camping with the boys… 80s in the day, 70s at night… as long as the mosquitoes stay at a minimum… it will be a fun weekend. Wish us luck!

One Day Closer

to the camp out. To the place built in 1945 and has never been upgraded. Where it has been tromped on by kids for all these years… there is no grass. There is only soft sandy dirt. I believe they call it ‘sugar sand’. You can’t park near your campsite… so you must trudge through this sand with all your gear to the site. If you bring a wagon, be sure it has really really wide tires or it just sinks most of the time.

And what I remember most about last time… was my youngest and his buddies laying down going “Look, Sand Angels”… Egads… I think it took me a month to get all that stuff off of him and out of our house and car. Good thing they love this place so much… or I would skip it.

Camping 101

Ok… it’s time to go camping again. Every trip costs me money. This time? I needed a new cover for my phone. The otter cover was way to bulky, so I bought a life proof. We’ll see how it goes.

Then I have been on the hunt for a hat. Preferable I would prefer to find Cheap Hats that are still decent. I have my old stetson cowboy hat I wore in competition… but I can’t see wearing it camping. I had a couple of different ‘gardening’ hats but ugh. I don’t wear them because they don’t fit right. One day… I hope to find the right hat to take with me.

And I can’t believe I only have days to get my stuff together for it. Luckily, I don’t have to worry if I forget something as we will only be 20 minutes away from the house. Though getting the car out and back is in to the camping area is itself an adventure. If I seem a little busy… that would be what’s happening… did I mention my husband is taking a business trip this week? Yaa…. I’m praying for good weather on Friday so he can make it back in time to go with us. Send your good thoughts as well… pretty please.

And I am surprised what an easy week it has turned out to be. The boys only have spelling words to study and a few math pages. That’s it. YES!!!! Considering Thursday is the concert, Friday is the 6am to 7pm Swamp field trip, 9pm we are setting up camp with the Boy scouts for the weekend. Yep, busy busy weekend…

Seriously… the weekend before was gorgeous… the weekend I have to go camping… is wet. Really really wet. We have the grey tent surrounded by water… notice my youngest is up to his knees… it go really low there. The boys loved it!

I heard a couple of boys yelling to some others “Come over here and play, it’s like a water park”. Sigh… another picture for your delight.

We stayed. My oldest was able to work on some Webelos achievements, my youngest got another beltloop. It was fun for the kids and I survived it. Now to spend the rest of this week drying out the tent and cleaning it. Ugh.

To Go or Not

Seems like I am getting phone calls now on whether to go camping or not. We may or may not get rain. The forecast is 70% rain… the problem is… this is Florida. It was only 30% chance of rain today… and it hasn’t stopped. They really can’t forecast rain in Florida. Particularly when there is a tropical storm sitting any where near by. I think it will be over by tomorrow so I’m going for it and packing anyways. I’m telling the people who call me that I’m going. We’ll see what happens.
