Food and my household

Ok, I’m tired of cooking. I”m sure it is a phase and I will get over it. But really… I’m done. I’ve considering trying to find tailgating food at some of the sports events and see if we can just… grab a bite or two from them as we walk around. It would probably be healthier for my kids than the chicken nuggets and hotdogs they have been surviving off of lately. Oh don’t get me wrong, I do make different chicken dishes… but about every third night… it seems I am done with cooking and they get the easy stuff. They like it, but I know it is not the right thing to do. Guess I’ll have to get my act together this week and actually start making real dishes… oh wait… my husband is going on a business trip… hmmm… I see hamburgers and hotdogs in my future meals.

Texas Gourmet Food

Ok, I’m tired of chicken. Chicken. Chicken. I change it up occasionally with spaghetti and meatballs or steak. Still, I would like more. Then I found Republic of Texas Foods. Yaaa, I shouldn’t cruise around the web looking at food when I am in the mood for something ‘tasty’. I found Jalapeno Glazed Smoked Turkey… ohhh… for dessert – Texas Cinnamon Frosted Pecan Gift Crate… hmmmm. Yummm. There was a link to banquet hall Frisco as well. Then I wouldn’t have to clean up after eating! Yaaa. My kind of site.

It is easy to search through it. I found some ‘Friendship Tea’ that sounds good. It is a cinnamon and orange mixture. I think that would be very tasty. And if it was put into one of their crates… that would be awesome. I saw that most of their crates are hand-crafted from reclaimed wood. So it is ecologically aware.

The Republic of Texas Company Store has close to 2000 independent food companies… or so it says on their website. I looked around Florida and didn’t see any close by… That means I will have to order the stuff if I want it. ohhh… and I could get baseball caps, t-shirts, vinegar, and cheese.

Even better… if I get my brother-in-law to buy Christmas gifts, I can get him some of the Fire Tomatillo Salsa Verde. I bet he would love it. I’m not into stuff that hot. I like tasty not burn me. But he loves all that stuff. Every level. I bet he would love the Cayenne Pistachios and Candied Jalapenos.

It’s a nice site. It even has the cooking directions for the turkeys and chickens on it. That way if you forget, you have a place to go back and get the info. If you get a chance, go check it out if you like Texas food. Let me know if you have ever gotten food from one of their stores!

What’s for dinner?

I get so tired of hearing that. Or the ‘EWWWWWWWWWwwwwwwwww’ afterwards. I have gotten to were I say ‘Food’ when asked. Tonight, was not an ‘ewwwwwww’ night. We had hamburgers, baked beans and corn on the cob. With brownies for dessert. I’m just glad we are not sleeping in the same tent as I could see the ‘gas’ cloud would be overwhelming with that food group. Still… it was a holiday and the boys loved it. Sometimes I can be a nice mom. GRIN.

Labor Day

And my kids are doing the labor. Two bathrooms cleaned… have making cupcakes on the list and putting away laundry. Will make my life easier this week as I have a band meeting Tues night, curriculum meeting for the youngest Wed night, curriculum meeting for the oldest Thur night and Scouting 101 on Fri night. Yep… My week is full.

I have considering doing something special for the boys… their bouquet of flowers is likely to be on the cupcakes and not real flowers. Yaa, they love their sweets. Luckily they also understand the need to balance the food. The youngest is particularly good at it, the oldest… not so good. I’m working on it. We have many years to go at this. Wish me luck!

Cake flavored goldfish?

May 24, 2011

For those without children, there is a decent snack called “Goldfish” out there. Has a cheezy taste to it. And I noticed over the last couple of years they have created it in ‘burst’ of flavor, different colors, and pretzel flavor. This weekend… I was shown they make it in “Cake Flavor”. Egads!

The scouts were making a ‘beach scene’ on graham crackers. Yellow icing for the beach, blue for the ocean and CAKE FLAVORED goldfish for the fish in the water. The person who came up with this was right, in that the cheese ones would not taste that good with icing and graham crackers… I just can’t believe she knew about the cake flavored goldfish. I learn so many new things every day.

Chicken Marsupial

Seriously, that is what my youngest calls Chicken Marsala. I made it last night. He fussed and fussed about not wanting to eat chicken marsupial. I had to laugh every time he said it. It just clicke here in my brain as funny. I cannot imagine eating chicken marsupial… but once I served it he was gobbling it down with no complaints. Which at some point in the conversation I had told him he liked it last time I made it. It is one of those staple meals I now make. It is one of those meals that is decent for diabetics. Along with the Dreamfield noodles (low carb) to make it all work. Though I swear the Dreamfield noodles are making me have the runs. Not that you needed to know that part. ;-) Might just be stress… this yearbook is really getting to me. We’ll see.
